Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen from Nigeria killed at least five Cameroonian soldiers in Bakinjaw on Friday.
Bakinjaw is a village in Cameroon located in the South-West Region near the border with Nigeria
A member of parliament for the district, Aka Martin Tyoga, told Reuters on Saturday that hundreds of armed men crossed the border from Taraba State to attack a military post in the village.
He said the incident was a reprisal attack after Cameroonian soldiers killed several herdsmen the previous day.
The traditional ruler of Bakinjaw, Agwa Linus, also confirmed the incident.
He said the attackers also burnt down his home.
“This is not the first time they are attacking – it’s very unfortunate,” the monarch added.
