Suspected IPOB, ESN members attack Police Station in Akwa Ibom

Gunmen suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) have attacked another Police Station in Akwa Ibom, South-South Nigeria.

THE PARADISE NEWS gathered that the gunmen attacked Odoro Ikpe Police Station in Ini Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State in the early hours of Saturday, May 8, 2021.

Although, it is uncertain who gave the orders but TheMail Newspaper, a widely read newspaper in Akwa Ibom state reported that several policemen were killed and vehicles burnt down as well.

“Gunmen suspected to be members of IPOB/ESN attack Odoro Ikpe Police Station in Ini LGA of Akwa Ibom State in the early hours of today.

“Several policemen killed in the attack. Recall that Nnamdi Kanu gave orders the ESN should kill all security personnel”, TheMail Newspaper posted on Facebook.

Confirming the news, Hon. Israel Idiasim, Chairman Ini Local Government Area said that IPOB was behind the attack and that the government will make a statement about it very soon.

Meanwhile, few days ago, Hon. Nyakno Okuibo, Chairman of Ikono Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom alleged that members of ESN attacked the police station in Ikono, killing two policemen while destroying several properties.

Ini Local Government Area is the 4th Police Station to be attacked in Akwa Ibom State. Others are Essien Udim, Ikono, Ika Divisional Police Stations.

Recall that Nnamdi Kanu, leader of IPOB had said, “no single soul deserves to be in any prison in Nigeria”.

Efforts to reach the police spokesperson in Akwa Ibom State, SP Odiko Macdon Ogbeche on phone proved abortive at the time of filing this report.
