The race for Mason Greenwood’s signature is heating up, with a top European squad looking to include an interesting asset in a swap deal to sweeten the deal for United this summer.
Greenwood is gathering a lot of attention from top teams following his return to football this year with Getafe. During his loan spell from United, the winger earned Getafe’s Player of the Season award, scoring ten goals across 36 games across all competitions.
Since featuring in United’s retained list at the end of the season, Greenwood as attracted interest from a number of top tier clubs including Borussia Dortmund, Fenerbahce and Juventus.
Dortmund have been looking at the individual as a back up signing if their initial plan of signing Jadon Sancho fall through.
Fenerbahce however are very keen on Greenwood with their new manager, Jose Mourinho expressing his desire to sign the 22-year-old after being impressed by the winger when he was managing at Old Trafford.
However it’s Juventus who are upping their game, having already initiated preliminary transfer talks with United when Greenwood expressed to his agent that he’d be open to a move to the Italian league Serie A.
Now the Italian giants are looking to improve their offer according to reported from Tuttojuve.
The Italian publication have reported that Juve are looking to include 20-year-old left midfielder Samuel Illing-Junior in the deal
Having made 24 appearances in the league this year, with a single goal and two assists, Illing-Junior is beginning to make his mark, primarily as a substitute, helping the Old Lady to a third place finish in Serie A this year, only behind Inter and AC Milan.
The use of Illing-Junior in this deal likely comes from the financial struggle that Juve would have in paying between £30 million and £35 million for Greenwood, hoping to move to a player-plus-cash deal.
As the 20-year-old trained for nine seasons at the Chelsea academy before moving to develop further in the Juventus academy, Illing-Junior is regarded as a homegrown player by Premier League rules, which may support his inclusion and a move to Old Trafford.
However, it appears that Juventus are keen to offload the youngster as he goes into the final year of his contract, with the potential of him also being used in a deal with Aston Villa to sign Brazilian centre midfielder Douglas Luiz.
