The Majority Leader of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Okoro Uchenna Kalu, has described the Labour Party in Abia State and at the national level as being on the right track.
Hon. Uchenna, who was reacting to today’s verdict of the Supreme Court that sacked Abure as national chairman, recalled that the Labour Party had been in court before the 2023 general election as a result of a leadership crisis. He explained that with the ruling of the Supreme Court, the Labour Party is now more formidable and in pole position to compete and win important elective positions ahead of the 2027 general election.
The lawmaker who represents Arochukwu State Constituency at the Abia Assembly expressed his delight at the number of defectors the Labour Party had received from members of other political parties in the State House of Assembly. Recall that Hon. Fyne Ahuama (Osisioma Ngwa South) and Hon. Iheanacho Nwaogu (Osisioma Ngwa North) had joined the Labour Party from the Young People’s Party (YPP) in 2024 with 3 other defectors from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). They include Hon. Rolland Chinwendu (Isialangwa South), Hon. Lucky Johnson (Isiukwuato) and Hon. Iheonunaekwu Ugochukwu Collins (Isialangwa North). The defectors have also declared their membership of the Labour Party during various sittings of the House.
Hon. Uchenna attributed the defection of his colleagues to the Labour Party to the visionary leadership style of Governor Dr Alex Chioma Otti and assured that the defectors would get equal treatment as other members of the Party. He also expressed confidence that more of his colleagues from the opposition parties in the state would join the Labour Party before the 2027 general election.
He, however, called on every Labour Party officeholder in the state and the nation at large not to relent in rendering selfless services to the people, as that would be the “passport” to a resounding victory in the upcoming elections.
