Super Eagles star, Ademola Lookman scored a hat-trick to lead Atalanta to a 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen to win the 2023-24 Europa League trophy.
Lookman produced a brilliant individual performance to end Bayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten run in style and propel his club to their first-ever European trophy.
He opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a close finish to set his club up for an historic victory.
He added the second goal 14 minutes later with stunning finish from outside the box after getting the better of Granit Xhaka before launching an unstoppable effort into the bottom corner.
Bayer Leverkusen struggled to get their rhythm in the first half. Alonso brought on Super Eagles star, Victor Boniface at the begining of the second half.
Lookman added the third goal in the 75th minute to wrap up the victory.
The Super Eagles star is the first African player to score a hat-trick in the final of a major UEFA competition.
Lookman described Atalanta’s performance as amazing.
He said, “One of the best nights of my life. Amazing performance from the team, we did it, we did it, we did it! Not got much else to say but yeah fantastic.
“They do always say third time lucky, so yeah it is for us today [winning a final at the third attempt this season]. I’m just happy we won.”
The defeat ends Bayer Leverkusen’s 51 matches unbeaten run.
