November 06, 2024 MANHATTAN, New York – A student sustained injuries to the hands and face after a chemical explosion inside a CUNY science lab on Wednesday afternoon, cops said.
At around 2:00pm, NYPD & FDNY Emergency services including a Hazmat team responded to a small chemical explosion that occurred inside the CUNY Advanced Science Research Center at 85 St. Nicholas Terrace in Manhattan, NYC.
According to FDNY radio, laboratory glassware exploded, causing various injuries and the injured person was transported to an area Hospital for further treatment.
The explosion may have been caused by a student mixing chemicals that reacted. It’s not known at this time if the incident occured during a class project or if the student was playing with chemicals.
Fire Marshalls were also on scene and will conduct a full investigation to determine the actual cause of the chemical explosion.
