Street Fighter 6’s closed beta test is only just over a day away from kicking off, which will finally allow players to get a feel for the game’s user experience and interface.

Capcom couldn’t wait that long, however, and revealed a cool feature added to SF6 that allows players to customize their in-game challenge screens to fit whatever their personal taste may be.

The most appreciable option comes by the way of including a multitude of different character portraits that offers a striking variety of art styles.

Of course you’ve got their default 3D render, but on top of that, players can pick from more stylized illustrations and even pixel art harkening back to the old games — Chun-Li and Kimberly are nailing down the Third Strike look while Ryu and E. Honda have those Street Fighter 2 versus screen vibes.

This can then be further customized with a slew of different backgrounds, effects and effect colors, so every player’s challenge screen could be quite different from each other.

We don’t know yet though if these can be individually changed for each character or there is only 1 slot that applies to the whole roster.

Allowing players to personalize their menus and interface is not anything truly new for the fighting game genre, but it’s still a nice step up from what was offered previously with Street Fighter 5’s simple profile and icon options.

And if the developers are putting in that much work and detail into just the online challenge mode screen, then we’re certainly more interested to see what the rest of the beta and full game will have packed in.

Those who were lucky enough to receive a beta invite can begin playing SF6 at 12 a.m. PT on Friday, October 7, and here’s how the game’s online ranking system will work now.

But for the rest of us, at least there’s people making good memes who understand our pain.
