Street Fighter 6 servers going down for maintenance Thursday evening, potentially preparing for Akuma content

·

Capcom announced via X that Street Fighter 6 servers will be going down for some scheduled maintenance Thursday evening at 8 p.m. PDT.

The big question that likely comes to mind given audience anticipation for upcoming DLC character Akuma is whether or not this will be in preparation for showcasing any kind of new information or footage of the beloved Street Fighter mainstay.

Here’s the post sharing the news; the link it takes you to just adds the Coordinated Universal Time window and some text clarifying how online features and modes will not be available during it. This is all fairly routine and something we’ve seen a handful of times in the past.

The ensuing comments are primarily references to Akuma as excited fans wonder out loud whether or not this update will in any way offer another look at him.

Street Fighter 6’s Battle Hub is currently decked out with Monster Hunter flair as the fellow Capcom property is the theme of April’s Fighters Pass, but we’re nearing the end of the month and so details for a brand new Fighters Pass are to be expected soon.

With Evo Japan playing out in Tokyo this weekend expectations for said Fighters Pass to be themed around the iconic fighting game event are especially prominent.

The Hub is created to mimic the feel of an e-Sports event, and promotion for one of the most high profile tournaments of the year (as we saw with Capcom Cup) seems most likely.

We do know that Akuma will be playable in Japan during the first week in May, so perhaps this update will be priming servers for that endeavor as well.

Let us know in the comments what you think we’ll see after the update concludes this evening.
