Over the last few months we’ve been watching Momochi, one of the best Street Fighter players to have ever lived, developing tech with Ed’s notably powerful Super 2. This slow moving, multi-hit projectile Super allows for Ed to pull off a coast to coast combo sequence that Momochi has actually landed in a tournament match.
The Japanese pro has become so efficient with Ed’s level 2 Super that he’s now been spotted (and clipped) pulling off his “dream sequence” combo, and launching into a safe jump set up thereafter with enough meter to rip into a second level 2 super. As cool as this is, other pro players are starting to call for nerfs to Ed as a result.
Here you can watch the brutal beat down as Momochi carries his Rashid opponent from corner to corner, safe jumps into a low, and then finishes the round off with a second level 2:

Ed has actually shot up the tier lists in Season 2 in no small part thanks to combos like this, but also because of other strong tools like his powerful neutral pokes and conversions. With his already being on many top players’ radars, this clip seems to be putting some competitors over the edge and leading them to call for nerfs.
“Ed build meter is a crime,” commented Chilean pro HDG|Pochoclo . Evo 2024 runner up NASR|BigBird commented to point out how Momochi gets two level 2’s in two sequences.
BigBird notably mains Rashid, the only character in the game with a better level 2 Super than Ed right now. Capcom did nerf Rashid’s level 2 (Ysaar) recently by making it so that he does not build meter while it’s active, and that seems to be the same kind of treatment some people are wanting to see Ed’s get.
BigBird continues the discussion in the ensuing thread, stating “Ysaar is still better, but the meter build is absurd with that much reward of landing the combo.” He also went on to say with regards to Ed’s level 2 that “They can keep the combo, but remove the meter build. It’s already rewarding enough since it’s corner to corner, high damage, drive gauge building back, and a safe jump at the end of it!”
We should point out that Momochi’s Ed combo is exceptionally difficult to pull off, for what it’s worth, and so there is something to be said about the fact that it’s locked behind a substantial execution barrier. With all that in mind, do you think Ed should be nerfed or allowed to let cook?
