Street Fighter 6 Director Takayuki Nakayama says that the team is planning for more than one balance patch this season

Akuma and the Season 2 patch for Street Fighter 6 were recently released. Needless to say, this is the biggest balance patch the game has ever seen thus far.

Before the Season 2 patch, there was a smaller balance patch that came bundled with Ed, though it only applied adjustments to a select few fighters. Additionally, it should be noted that this particular patch was released after Capcom Cup X.

However, this approach has received a little bit of criticism from the playerbase. Many believe that Street Fighter 6 would be better if smaller patches could be implemented throughout the year.

“Well, we did a big one yearly, but we’re planning on doing a little more of them just bit by bit for this next year.” – Takayuki Nakayama

It turns out that Capcom has heard this feedback. During a livestream on the Capcom Channel, Street Fighter 6 Director Takayuki Nakayama briefly spoke about what we can expect for Season 2 content.

“Not just new characters, but balance patches as well,” said Nakayama. “Well, we did a big one yearly, but we’re planning on doing a little more of them just bit by bit for this next year. That’s what we’re thinking.”

In other words, if a character is becoming too strong or too weak in the new meta, Capcom should be more willing to make some minor adjustments. We should probably expect these smaller patches to be more akin to the Ed patch.

Of course, this also means that tournament players will have to adapt to changes as these type of updates could drop in the middle of the second Capcom Pro Tour series for Street Fighter 6. Regardless, Capcom will be able to keep the game feeling fresh with multiple updates this year.

A special thanks goes out to Nicholas ‘MajinTenshinhan’ Taylor for his translations.
