Whether you love him or got tired of him after a few matches, Super Street Fighter 4’s announcer is still iconic for his distinct powerful voice and narration over matches long before Street Fighter 6’s commentary feature.
Now, however, you can get that SF4 announcer back thanks to a new mod from jick_d, which comes full circle and makes him part of SF6’s real time commentary.
The modder recently released a slick trailer to seemingly show off the announcer as well, so you can hear how it should work.
Those familiar with the SF4 series will probably pick up on some familiar lines like “it’s all over ladies and gentleman!” and “pull out all the stops!”
According to the creator, this mod can be used by picking Vicious and James Chen as commentators as well as turning Rally Support on with a warning to turn the volume down to 5 so it won’t be too loud.
Since it’s unclear how exactly this mod was created, we don’t know if it simply just re-uses the SF4 lines or manufactured some new ones to be more specific for SF6 — like saying Luke and Manon’s names since they obviously didn’t exist yet.
Though he was credited differently, the Super SF4 announcer was voiced by Jamieson Price, who has a long history with fighting games, considering he was Noob Saibot plus the announcer in Mortal Kombat 9, Iron Tager in BlazBlue, Heihachi in Street Fighter X Tekken, Soriz in Granblue Fantasy Versus, Leo in Guilty Gear Strive, Ermac in Mortal Kombat X and 1, and most recently in Tekken 8 as Paul Phoenix.
You may also recognize him as Sojiro Sakura in Persona 5, father Nier, Yasutora Sado in Bleach, Big Ear in The Big O, Tobirama Senju in Naruto, Lordgenome in Gurren Lagann and as part of the English cast in a ton of other video games and anime.
Capcom hasn’t released any new commentators officially since SF6 came out last year, but perhaps it’s something they’ll explore in Season 2 or beyond.
If not, maybe we’ll see more custom creations from the community like this.
