Street Fighter 3 developer's comment from 1997 suggests that Ryu shouldn't be able to use Denjin Hadoken by Street Fighter 6

The Denjin Charge is a powerful technique employed by Ryu in Street Fighter 6 that empowers the next usage of his Hadoken, Hashogeki, and his level 1 Super Art. It’s all reminiscent of the Denjin Hadoken Super Art used by Ryu starting in Street Fighter 3.

On July 27, 1997, the Fan Book Gamest Mook Volume 81 was released in Japan a few months after Street Fighter 3: New Generation that contained some interesting comments regarding Ryu and the rest of the cast. Scotia recently provided some translations of what the developers had to say about characters in Street Fighter 3.

At one point, the developer was asked how Ryu was able to learn the Denjin Hadoken technique. This version of the classic fireball is perhaps most notable for its electric properties.

“By briefly reversing the way we control the vibrational chi in alternating directions, one can electrify their vibrations,” begun the developer in response. “This is made possible by suppressing the chi of the Satsui no Hado, the chi of the intent to kill.”

However, according to Ryu’s profile page on the official Street Fighter 6 website, Ryu has “overcome the Satsui no Hado,” and is now seeking yet greater heights. More specifically, Ryu was able to overcome the Satsui no Hado during the events of Street Fighter 5’s main story mode.

The Street Fighter 3 developer once theorized that Ryu should not be able to perform the Denjin Hadoken without the Satsui no Hado. Despite this, he still seems to have access to the technique in Street Fighter 6, a game that takes place after Street Fighter 5 and Street Fighter 6.

“Perhaps if he were able to completely overcome the Killing Intent, Ryu would no longer to use Denjin Hadoken,” concluded the Street Fighter 3 developer. Notably, the Satsui no Hado can be directly translated as “Surge of Killing Intent.”
