A lot has changed at Manchester United since Sir Jim Ratcliffe has taken over with his 27.7% purchase of the club.
Whilst Ratcliffe is only a minority owner at United, the part that he purchased controls football operations at the club, with the INEOS owner becoming very hands-on with the inner workings of the club.
Since taking charge, Ratcliffe has completely changed the operational directors, bringing in Omar Berrada as CEO from Manchester City, Dan Ashworth from Newcastle United as sporting director and Jason Wilcox from Southampton as technical director.
Alongside this, a complete revamp of the coaching staff has taken place, with Rene Hake, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Andreas Georgson all joining the side.
Ratcliffe has also invested in an upgrade to the Carrington training ground, spending £50 million on the development, and is planning an even bigger upgrade to The Red Devils’ stadium, planning a £2 billion development of a new stadium being labelled as the “Wembley of the North”.
With so much change and us living in the age of streaming services, it’s no surprise that some major companies are interested in the United story and as such have contacted the club to make a behind-the-scenes documentary.
Manchester United is a hot topic for the streaming giants
The premise of the documentary would be on the club’s revival under Ratcliffe, with companies like Netflix, Amazon and Disney+ all looking to get a deal signed.
With United currently prioritising a focus on improving the situation for the club on the pitch, it’s understood that no serious negotiations have taken place with any of the streaming giants.
Over recent years, documentaries on football clubs have become a hot topic, with Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United all having worked with Amazon, not to mention Welcome to Wrexham on Disney+ which is in its third season.
However, United have been a key focus for streaming services, with Netflix releasing their David Beckham series last year, and Amazon having released documentaries on Sir Alex Ferguson and Wayne Rooney, as well as the historic Champions League win, securing the treble in 1999.
Despite all these individual documentaries, no one series has been done exclusively on United, making it a hot ticket that all are fighting for.
