A dramatic reunion took place in the Tambuwal LGA of Sokoto State as a baby stolen one year ago was finally returned to his overjoyed parents.
The twist came after the kidnapper, Hamida Mustapha, had a misunderstanding with her husband, leading to speculation about the baby’s paternity.
According to the Sokoto State Police Command, the baby was abducted on March 17, 2024, by Hamida, who posed as a friend of the baby’s mother’s sister.
She gained the mother’s trust by bringing clothes for the two-day-old baby and then fled with the infant.
The case went cold until recently, when Hamida’s husband reported his suspicions to the police.
She was invited to the station, where she confessed to the crime, adding that she had initially lied to her husband and relatives about giving birth to the baby.
She had lied to her husband and relatives about giving birth to the baby, but her grandmother, whom she had initially said she delivered in her custody, denied any knowledge of Hamida’s supposed delivery.
The police reunited the baby with his parents, and Hamida has been charged in court.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Musa, reiterated the command’s commitment to eradicating crime and urged the public to continue supporting the police with information.
