The Stardew Valley 1.6 update is especially unique as it introduces brand new neighbors living close to your farm. However, they are not really regular NPCs, but raccoons. In this guide, we’ll teach you where to find them, how to complete the Giant Stump quest, and what they yield in Stardew Valley 1.6. So, let’s get started!
Where to Find Raccoons in Strdew Valley
First of all, let’s figure out the location of these new neighbors. If you head south of your farm into the Cindersap Forest and then head towards the Secret Woods, you’ll see some massive trees in the upper area. The giant tree on the far right is the one that will be related to this quest line.
The tree seems pretty normal at the beginning, and you cannot interact with it at all. What you need to do first is reconstruct the greenhouse. You may do this by completing the Pantry bundles in the Community Center or purchasing the “Greenhouse” from Joja Community Development Form for 35,000g.
Once this building is functional, there is a 10% chance there will be a strong wind storm random event during the night that will trigger and break the giant tree and leave a stump. Now go back to this stump and interact with it.
How to Complete the Giant Stump Quest
Once you interact with the stump, your character will say: “The old tree is gone… however, with 100 pieces of hardwood, this could be fixed up”. At this point, you’ll receive The Giant Stump quest. So, your job is to bring 100 hardwood and interact with the stump again.
In Stardew Valley, you can get hardwood by chopping down the following:
- Mahogany trees (any axe)
- Large stumps (copper axe or better)
- Large logs (steel axe or better)
Secret Woods have several large stumps that respawn daily, so that’s where you can collect a lot of hardwood. You may access this area using the chair trick if you don’t own a steel axe. Hardwood is also lootable from barrels and boxes in the mines.
When you gather enough hardwood, interact with the stump and repair it. You’ll then need to come back the next day to meet your raccoon neighbor.
Raccoon Quest Explained in Stardew Valley 1.6
This animal will ask for different items, usually food, which you can give them as a reward. The reward varies from the new Stardew Valley 1.6 seeds to the miscellaneous items like the jungle tank and raccoon hat. Once you complete a quest, you’ll need to wait for 7 days in order to get a new one.
The purpose of these quests is the rewards you get after completing them, the Good Neighbors achievement that you get after successfully completing the 8th quest, and the raccoon lady’s shop, which will permanently sell some useful items. You’ll unlock them all after you complete the first five quests. Here’s a table showing what items you can buy and what their prices are:
Item | Price |
---|---|
Carrot seeds | 1 Maple Seed |
Summer squash seeds | 15 Sap |
Broccoli seeds | 5 Moss |
Powdermelon seeds | 2 Acorn |
Raccoon journal | 999 Fiber |
Raccoon hat | 10 Mixed seeds |
Fairy dust | 1 Mystic syrup |
Jungle tank | 5 Broken glasses |
Completing these quests will grow the raccoon family by first adding the raccoon wife who will sell the items. Then the children that will appear around the stump house.
Interact with the raccoon on the left to see what he asks for. Then, place the items in the two slots and he’ll give you a reward. The first few quests seem to be fixed, but then they will be randomly chosen.
Depending on the quest, you might need different machines that will produce different artisan goods. Moreover, the fruit, vegetables, or fish needed will be part of the current season, so you can get them easily.
Here are all the different requests you can get from the raccoon, what machines they require and what they yield. Remember, you can continue completing these quests even after there are 8 baby raccoons around the house, so you can continue acquiring items in this unique way.
