Agricultural Diploma advantageous but not essential
Previous farming experience with maize & soya essential
Previous Proven experience in driving the following:
Tractors
Combines
Self-propelled sprayer
Computer literate
GPS experience
Previous beef farming experience advantageous
Proven experience in maintaining the following
General maintenance
Irrigation & pumps
Welding
Pumps
Must be hands on, trustworthy & disciplined, and able to work as part of a team
Ability to speak Zulu
Good communication and organizational skills
Valid drivers license
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Understanding of Cattle:
Inject and identify sick animals
Brand, dehorn, castrate and tattoo calves
Draft cattle
Run a seasonal feedlot
Work out rations and quantities / day / herd
Estimate Weights
Ear tag and Ear notch
Understanding of Cropping
Spray crops, pesticides and herbicides
Plant Crops
Identify disease and pests
Irrigation schedule
Understanding of soil health and fertility
Understanding of fertilisers
Mixing of chemicals
Understanding of Machinery
The use of GPS
The use of crop maps
Setting of the following equipment:
Spray
Fertiliser
Planter
Combine Harvester
Pivots and Pumps
Tractors and Tillage Equipment
Baling Equipment
Storage of Grains and treating thereof
Driving machinery
General Maintenance:
Cut and Weld Well
Strip and Fit Bearings
Limited Knowledge of Electrics
Maintain and look after a house, garden and swimming pool
Staff Requirements:
Understanding and communicating with staff
Monitoring overtime and recording overtime
Monitoring casual labour and recording days worked
Motivation of Staff
General Requirements:
Recording Diesel Pump and usage
Recording Cattle Numbers
Recording Irrigation Schedule
