Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero may be getting some flack lately for its gameplay balancing and how Bandai Namco is handling the official tournaments, but it’s clear the developers poured a lot of love and effort into fleshing out characters and interactions.
That includes a bunch of surprising and small details added in that you’ve likely never noticed before, even if you’re a pretty big Dragon Ball fan.
KaDazee recently put together a new entry in his fun series of the incredible details featured in the Dragon Ball: Budokai Tenkaichi games with the latest showcasing 13 such fascinating inclusions in Sparking Zero.
This video begins by taking a look at how power sensing was handled in previous Budokai Tenkaichi entries and how that compares to the new game.
In Sparking Zero, we can see something a bit different compared to the previous games that attempts to keep the ability more true to the individual characters.
That means a character like Videl can lose her focus / lock-on for a character if they remain out of her vision for too long while Goku and Krillin may only lose their targets for a second or two before zeroing back in again.
This is of course because Videl cannot really sense energy while most of the other Z Fighters have become adept at locating ki, but it doesn’t stop there.
KaDazee next shows how this applies to characters with Scouters too with classic Vegeta still managing to lose a drowning Goku while Burter does not because the latter has the updated / newer model, which is alluded to in the accessory description.
And all of that goes even further with the Androids with 17 and 18 unable to sense ki while the opponents can’t sense them either like in the source material, but those fully mechanical like 16, 19, and 20 can lock on to energy with built in sensors.
So while the developers may not have brought back some of the old lock-on mechanics from the first two games, they went with systems to keep things close to the manga for the most part.
As for another detail that has nothing to do with energy, Sparking Zero is apparently the first game in the series to feature different types of candy when using the candy beam depending on the character who uses it.
Super Buu still turns the opponent into a cookie for example while Majuub transforms them into a chocolate bar.
We’re not going to go over the reset of the interesting details here, however, so we highly recommend checking out KaDazee’s excellent new release below.
