Spain is about to legalize the sale of medical cannabis in pharmacies

A subcommittee of Spain’s Congress of Deputies accepted a draught bill to regulate a few medical cannabis selling, referring the proposal to the Commission of Health for a vote this week.

Despite the fact that the proposed legislation calls for extremely strict distribution rules, it is being lauded as the first step toward greater access.

Following approval by the Health Commission, the Spanish Medicines Agency will have six months to incorporate the new recommendations into regulations.

THC-containing flowers, according to the proposed legislation, will only be available by prescription for the treatment of specific diseases.

Among the illnesses are cancer, multiple sclerosis, and certain types of epilepsy. The law requires distribution only in pharmacies.
