South American wonderkid on Manchester United’s radar

Manchester United’s struggles in front of goal this season have been a major concern for Ruben Amorim.

Despite high expectations, Rasmus Hojlund has found it difficult to maintain consistency, scoring just three goals in the Premier League.

Joshua Zirkzee has shown glimpses of promise but is not a traditional number nine as many first thought of him to be.

The lack of a reliable goal scorer has left United struggling to break down opposition defences, making their pursuit of attacking reinforcements a priority.

With the club desperate to find a long-term solution, they have turned their attention to an emerging talent from South America.

According to transfer insider Graeme Bailey via United In Focus, Manchester United are eyeing Colombian wonderkid Neyser Villarreal.

The 19-year-old striker, who plays for Millonarios, has caught United’s attention with a string of outstanding performances at the FIFA South American under-20 championships.

Neyser Villarreal dominated the tournament, scoring eight goals and providing four assists in just nine games, finishing as the competition’s top scorer.

“United have a very good scouting network on South America and good contacts – both essential.

“We have just seen young Diego Leon come in and United were strongly represented at the South American Under-20 Championship.

“I am also told that United were one of the sides who were impressed with Colombian Neyser Villarreal – who finished as top-scorer.”

His prolific form has not gone unnoticed, with 10 goals in 15 matches for Colombia’s under-20 side further cementing his reputation as a rising star.

United are not the only club monitoring his progress, as Bailey reports that Porto and Liverpool are also keen on securing his services.

With Villarreal’s contract set to expire in December 2025, Millonarios are expected to cash in on their young talent during the summer transfer window.

A move to Old Trafford could see him follow in the footsteps of recent United signing Diego Leon, who impressed at the same tournament while representing Paraguay.

As United continue their search for attacking reinforcements, Neyser Villarreal’s name has emerged as a potential solution to their ongoing goal-scoring problems.
