Role Description
- This is a full-time on-site role for a skilled Solar Minigrid Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Engineer to oversee the operation, maintenance, and performance optimization of our solar minigrid systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring high system uptime, troubleshooting technical issues, and implementing preventive maintenance strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
System Monitoring & Performance Optimization:
- Monitor minigrid power generation, storage, and distribution systems to ensure maximum efficiency.
- Analyze performance data and recommend improvements.
Preventive & Corrective Maintenance:
- Develop and execute routine maintenance schedules for solar panels, inverters, batteries, and other system components.
- Diagnose and repair faults to minimize downtime.
- Maintain an inventory of spare parts and recommend procurement as needed.
Field Operations & Troubleshooting:
- Conduct on-site inspections, repairs, and performance assessments.
- Respond to system failures and resolve issues within agreed service-level timeframes.
Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with industry standards, environmental regulations, and company policies.
- Implement health and safety protocols for field technicians.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Work with local communities, technicians, and stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.
- Train local operators and technicians on system management and maintenance.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or HND in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in solar energy systems, minigrids, or power system maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of solar PV systems, inverters, battery storage, and power distribution.
- Experience using remote monitoring tools and interpreting system performance data.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical systems efficiently.
- Understanding of regulatory standards and safety protocols in the Nigerian energy sector.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in remote locations.
- Willingness to travel to various minigrid sites as required.
- Preferred Skills:
- Certification in solar PV installation and maintenance is an advantage.
- Experience with hybrid power systems (solar-diesel, solar-storage) is a plus.
- Knowledge of software for energy system monitoring (SCADA, IoT-based platforms, etc.).
