With only eleven days left until 30th June, a number of players are coming to an end of their contracts, either as loan spells or their permanent deals, potentially leaving stars without a club.
Sofyan Amrabat’s loan spell at United is exactly the same, as in less than two weeks, the Moroccan international will be back to his parent club, Fiorentina. That is unless United trigger the buy clause built into the loan agreement for the player.
Amrabat joined the Red Devils last summer for £8.5 million, however, there was an option included for the Premier League team to buy the midfielder, making a move permanent for £17 million with a further £4.23 million in add-ons.
As it stands, this option is still available should UNited wish to keep hold of the 27-year-old, however, they’ll need to act fast with the option running out on the 30th June in line with his loan spell coming to a close.
Amrabat’s time at United has been a tough one, primarily being a substitute in Erik ten Hag’s plans, making 30 appearances across all competitions, with five playing the centre midfielder as a left-back to cover the injury issues which saw Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia ruled out for extensive periods of time.
At the end of the season, Amrabat began to shine, starting the final four league games and the FA Cup final where United pulled off an unexpected 2-1 win against Premier League champions Manchester City. These performances show the skill and ability that the Moroccan has and may be a decision maker in the decision to activate or leave the option to buy the player.
With his future at United uncertain, The Athletic has reported that Amrabat has taken matters into his own hands and informed his parent club Fiorentina that he does not want his future at the Italian club and has requested to be transferred this summer.
Speaking to Ziggo Sports after United’s FA Cup final win, the Moroccan said: “Do I already know what I’m going to do next year? No. We are going to talk. Staying is certainly an option. Look, I think it has been a very difficult season.”
He continued “For Manchester United, it needs to be much better, and also for me personally. We are going to talk. Manchester United are the biggest club in the world, so who wouldn’t want to play football here? But all parties have to be happy with each other, so we will sit down now and see what happens.”
Manchester United’s stance on this and the future of Amrabat at the club is unknown at this time, however, we’ll have an answer in the next fortnight as to if the midfielder fits with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s strategic direction and vision for the club.
