Social Commentators laud emergence of AMPON S/South leadership

With the 28 July emergence of Messrs Obaji Akpet and Efio-Ita Nyok as pro tem Chairman and Secretary respectively of Association of Online Media Practitioners of Nigeria (AMPON) in Cross River State and south-southern geopolitical zone comprising 6 states of the federation, there have been a plethora of congratulatory messages sent in from respected quarters.

The most recent being from respected social commentators and public affairs analysts, namely, Ogoja-born Prince Thomas Abi Jr., and Lagos-based Simon Utsu. On his part, Prince Abi observes that Mr Akpet's emergence as Acting Chairman of AMPON will strengthen new media in the state and geopolitical zone. He also notes his certainty that Mr Nyok online journalism to greater heights. Mr Utsu particularly submits concerning Mr Nyok that his appointments is well deserved and long overdue being a square peg in a square hole for such leadership position.

Prince Abi's statement reads in part, 'I am optimistic that the emergence of Comrade Obaji would help in the proliferation of information in the south south region and also strengthen the new media which is a veritable avenue for governance between the government and the governed. It is my prayer that he will continue to report fearless and work towards the growth of online journalism'.

'I also congratulate Mr. Efio-Ita Nyok on his elevation as secretary of the association. He happens to be a very fine young man who has distinguished himself in the journalism practice. He is fearless, committed and brave. I am certain the he would work towards taking online journalism to greater heights in not just the South-south region but in Africa', Prince Abi concludes.

On the other hand, Utsu confesses that, 'It was with much joy and little surprise that I received the news of Efio-Ita Nyok being appointed as the secretary (south-south) of the Online Media Practitioners of Nigeria. Joy because such a deserved appointment was long overdue and unsurprised because Barrister Effiom is a square peg in a square hole when it comes to such a leadership responsibility'.

'I foresee him putting in his best to ensure that AMPON becomes the cornerstone of journalism in Nigeria in no distant time. His stellar track record as the publisher of the Negroid Haven is there for everyone to see.
