…Describes her as a square peg in a square hole

Cross River-born social commentator and political analyst, Engr. Simon Utsu, has congratulated Usoro Offiong Akpabio on her appointment as Managing Director of the South South Development Commission (SSDC) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a congratulatory message posted on his social media handle, Utsu expressed delight over Usoro’s appointment, describing her as a square peg in a square hole.

He said the pioneer MD comes to the job with the right industry know-how and political acumen and savvy needed to navigate the south-south and its predominantly oil and gas terrain, believing she would leave behind a legacy of human and capital development.

“Congratulations to the tear rubber, pioneer MD of the South South Development Commission, Ms. Usoro Akpabio; a square peg in a square hole. I’ve known her for a little while and I must say this appointment is deserved. She’s mounting the saddle with the right industry know-how and political acumen & savvy, needed to navigate the south-south and its predominantly oil & gas terrain & leave a lasting legacy of human and capital development.

“It’s also a good move as it’d tilt the gender imbalance in appointments – something I have been complaining about up here,” he writes.

He ended by wishing her the very best on her new regional assignment, even as he expressed optimism that Usoro would do the region good.

Simon Utsu is based in Europe.
