United’s pursuit of a striker is currently circling round LOSC Lille’s Jonathan David and Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee.

Whilst United and Spurs currently sit as the lead clubs with interest in David, recent reports announced that the two horse race of United and AC Milan battling it out for Zirkzee has left United as the sole runners for his signature.

Zirkzee has made himself a key player for Bologna, having a fantastic season with the Italian club, making 34 appearances, grabbing eleven goals and five assists, ultimately getting a call up for the Dutch national squad for the European Championships in Germany this summer, without having represented the Netherlands until now.

Whilst Milan have rethinking their pursuit of the 23-year-old due to the high agent fees of £12.7 million in order to get the deal across the line, United do not appear to have an issue with the costs and are continuing their interest in the Dutch striker.

Speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Talks podcast, journalist Dharmesh Sheth has announced that the deal between Manchester United and Joshua Zirkzee is “edging forwards”.

Although it’s unsure at this time what this means, the report continued that United are willing to pay the £34 million release clause that the striker currently has in his contract, allowing the Red Devils to bypass negotiations with the Italian club to directly discuss personal terms with Zirkzee and his team.

The Premier League club are reportedly in conversations with the striker’s agents which Sheth expects to be the crux of the deal.
