With Manchester United getting ready to face Brentford this weekend, Erik ten Hag is having to reshuffle his starting line-up in the wake of a series of injuries.
Whilst Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have been long-term injuries and are still ruled out, Mason Mount, Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo have also now been side-lined.
Whilst Mount took a knock to his head in the match-up with Spurs, Mainoo and Maguire both experienced muscle injuries against Aston Villa.
In light of the injuries that are facing the team, ten Hag has invited a series of academy stars to join first-team training.
Manchester United’s young midfield options
With Mainoo and Mount out, with a further question mark over Ugarte, United are now looking at their other options to see who could step up in the short term to cover the midfield position.
Prior to the season starting, Toby Collyer was beginning to make a name for himself, with this potentially giving him the chance to step up competitively to the first team.
Alongside him, Dan Gore is another option that Erik ten Hag has at his disposal, having graduated with Collyer into the senior side.
However, now six young academy stars have been seen in first-team training alongside the recent graduates, potentially getting their chance to step up in United’s hour of need.
The six academy stars seen in first-team training
Now, ten Hag has brought in six of the most promising academy stars to show what they’re capable of in first-team training.
The new faces seen in the senior training are Finley McAllister, Tyler Fredricson, Malachi Sharpe, Ashton Missin, Sam Mather and Ruben Curley.
Whilst their inclusion in the game with Brentford is unlikely, the first-team training experience will be a great learning opportunity for them all.
