Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS contingent are set to oversee their first summer of business at Old Trafford, and a massive clear out is expected as they build their own team and structure.
The Red Devils have been having an absolutely horrendous season and as such, massive changes are expected, especially those top earners and those undroppable from the team.
The injury crisis that has plagued the club all season is one of the reasons for the horrible results all round, especially in defence.
Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martínez in particular have been the centre backs most affected by injuries this campaign.
As Football Insider however reports, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is keen on keeping both of the injury-prone centre backs and has already made the decision to do just that.
The duo have missed the majority of the season through injuries, with the Sweden Captain Liendlof playing 27 matches, while United’s World Cup winner has only featured in 11 games, a true testament to how injury-plagued the duo has been.
The defensive issues have been better illustrated by Erik ten Hag deploying his 27th different back four of the season against Liverpool with young defender Willy Kambwala partnering Maguire, who himself is only returning from injury, for the first time.
Despite their injury issues, Sir Jim is reportedly keen on retaining both of the defenders.
Be that as it may, Man United definitely have to sign a new centre back this summer, properly evidenced by the defensive struggles this campaign.
Lots of top centre backs have been linked with the club most-strongly Juventus’s Gleison Bremer and young Everton man Jarrad Branthwaite.
Both have been tremendous for their respective clubs this season and would be brilliant additions to ten Hag’s squad.
According to the Mirror, Branthwaite tops Ratcliffe’s list of summer targets, and he could cost the Manchester club around £75million.
