Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s tenure at Manchester United has sparked controversy and division among fans.
Initially heralded as a potential savior when he took partial ownership of the club, Ratcliffe assumed control of sporting operations from the Glazer family, raising hopes among the fanbase.
However, the past year has seen a series of decisions that have alienated key supporters and groups, fueling dissatisfaction.
From large-scale staff redundancies to contentious ticket price hikes, Ratcliffe’s cost-cutting measures have drawn widespread criticism.

The removal of concessions for children and pensioners, a flat ticket price of £66, and cuts to support for disabled fans have left many feeling disconnected from the club they love.
Perhaps even more striking has been the decrease of charitable donations to the association supporting former players, a move seen as emblematic of a disconnect with Manchester United’s traditions.
The club’s financial priorities have also raised eyebrows.
Massive spending on managerial changes, including Erik ten Hag’s costly dismissal and Ruben Amorim’s appointment, alongside the rapid departure of sporting director Dan Ashworth, contrasts sharply with the cuts affecting everyday fans and staff.

A vocal United fan group, The 1958, has issued a strongly worded statement condemning Ratcliffe’s actions.
They adamantly explained, “[INEOS has] nothing but total contempt for the fans and the very fabric of what our club was built on.”
The statement criticized Ratcliffe’s strategy as targeting vulnerable supporters while failing to address the underlying issues caused by Glazer-era mismanagement.
“Price hikes for match going fans. Removal of concessions for kids & pensioners. Club staff losing jobs at all levels saving peanuts.”
The 1958’s message warns of the erosion of fan culture and challenges supporters to unite in resistance.
With Manchester United struggling on the pitch as well, the team’s recent defeats and precarious position in the Premier League table have only amplified frustrations.
As United prepare to face Newcastle, the club’s challenges off the pitch loom just as large as those on it.
For many fans, the question remains: can Ratcliffe repair the fractured relationship with the supporters before the situation worsens?
