Speaking to United’s media, Ruud van Nistelrooy explained that he spoke to Sir Alex Ferguson before his first game against Leicester.
He also noted that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, among other former United players, sent him messages of encouragement this week.
‘I spoke shortly with Sir Alex. He wished me luck before the game,’ he said.
‘You know, Ole sent me a text to wish me luck, as [did] many former players that reached out and just sent me a text, [wishing] all the best.
‘It was great to receive all these messages.’

Van Nistelrooy insisted that his side will be pulling no punches against Chelsea tomorrow and will attack them in front of the Old Trafford fans.
‘When we have the possibilities to play and to attack, we always will try to do so.
‘I think that’s what it’s like, you know, to play for this club and gets the crowd lifted. And that’s what the fans want to see.
‘And, obviously, the intent is always there to do so,’ he said.
United have won just one of their last five Premier League games and desperately need a turn in form.
Van Nistelrooy will be in charge of three more games before Ruben Amorim takes the reigns on November 11.
The Portuguese manager will stepping into a difficult role, but his job would certainly be made easier if Van Nistelrooy can manage to build some momentum in his remaining matches.
