Capcom surprised not only Street Fighter 6 community, but also the many Mai Shiruani fans across the FGC with Thursdays’ official Street Fighter 6 Mai teaser trailer.
While we’ve known the SNK guest has been en route for her next crossover appearance for some time now, this is the first we’ve seen of her actual in-game model for Street Fighter 6. We thought it would be interesting to compare this latest iteration with some of Mai’s recent modern appearances, and so we’ve put together the gallery you can find after the jump.
She may not quite be Chun-Li, but Mai Shiranui is easily one of the most popular figures in the entire fighting game genre. After her debut back in 1992’s Fatal Fury 2, Mai has appeared in over 100 different games and animes (ranging from referenced to fully playable).
The Alluring Ninja Girl is also one of the most commonly cosplayed characters from the fighting genre as it seems just about every portfolio has at least one or two takes on Miss Shiranui.
With such an interesting design, one hardly has to wonder why Mai has garnered such a steady stream of attention over the decades. A flashy set of fiery moves paired with satisfying gameplay and sex appeal that was obvious even when she existed only as a two dimensional sprite in her early days are just some of the reasons she’s been so prominent for so long.
We’ve taken a snapshot of Mai’s Street Fighter 6 model and included it next to five of her other recent models including those from Dead or Alive 5, Dead or Alive 6, King of Fighters 14, King of Fighters 15, and the upcoming Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.
You can view larger photos of all six models individually, while the seventh and final image in the gallery puts all six together in a collage. Let us know what you think of Capcom’s work on Mai compared to the likes of SNK and Team Ninja in the comments below.
