Former Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia has revealed why Nigeria cannot win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] tournament in Ivory Coast.
The former Nigerian international shared his thoughts via interview on Channels TV.
With less than two months to the commencement of the competition, Siasia says the Super Eagles of Nigeria team is disorganised and cannot become the best in Africa.
“Like the majority of Nigerians, I am worried about the Eagles’ lackluster performances so far. Struggling against countries like Lesotho and Zimbabwe is not a good sign of a team ready to win the Africa Cup of Nations as well as qualify for the 2026 World Cup,” the former striker stated in an interview with Channels TV.
“Let us not deceive ourselves, we cannot be the best in Africa with this disorganised team. Our players must be made to understand what it means to wear the green and white jersey of the nation while the coach also needs to improve on the tactical approach.”
The Super eagles of Nigeria have been drawn in group A alongside hosts, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea Bissau.
Siasia, a 51-cap Nigeria international was part of the team that participated in the 1994 FIFA World Cup and won the 1994 African Nations Cup [AFCON].
He was also a member of the Nigerian team that won bronze at 1992 African Nations Cup in Senegal.
As a coach, Siasia has managed the Super Eagles and is one of the respected indigeneous coaches in Nigeria.
The 56-year old is into the final months of a FIFA ban.
