The last Nintendo Direct left fans in shock and awe after the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics was announced. Since absolutely nobody was expecting this reveal, members in the fighting game community absolutely lost their minds in reaction to it all.
In an interview with TouchArcade, Shuhei Matsumoto, Producer of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, was asked if the developers saw reactions to the big announcement. Needless to say, they were pleased with how the community reacted.
“Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics was easily the biggest surprise announcement of 2024 so far. Usually things like this would have some hints, but we had no idea this was happening,” began TouchArcade. “How has it been for the developers at Capcom seeing the reactions online?”
“We watched in real-time and were moved by your reactions. We also saw the reaction videos afterward! We’re very happy about it.” — Shuhei Matsumoto
“I’m glad you felt a big surprise! We believe that the announcement method should vary depending on the title, so we chose this approach for this game,” responded Matsumoto. “We watched in real-time and were moved by your reactions. We also saw the reaction videos afterward! We’re very happy about it.”
Previously in this interview, we heard from Matsumoto how the developers have already spent one to two years developing this collection. In total, Capcom has been in communications with Marvel for about four years about making this revival happen.
We’ve also heard that the developers were hoping to surprise and delight fans with the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics. It’s certainly interesting to hear that they were “moved” by the reactions, suggesting that the reality ended up exceeding the developers’ expectations and hopes.
Needless to say, it would appear that the developers are just as much fans of the Marvel vs. Capcom series as the rest of us. This seems to be the driving force behind the development of this collection.
At this point, the release date has yet to be narrowed down. For the time being, all we know about its release schedule is that it’s slated to become available sometime in 2024.
Despite this, it would seem that the game is already topping sales charts with preorders. This is a very promising sign for Marvel vs. Capcom fans.
Before this big reveal, the last release for the Marvel vs. Capcom series was back in 2017 with Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. If we are to assume that Marvel and Capcom are gauging the audience, then it feels like the potential of Marvel vs. Capcom 4 is higher than it’s ever been before.
Once we learn more about the release window of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, we’ll be sure to share that info here on EventHubs. Stay tuned.
