Manchester United’s record breaking former midfielder Shola Shoretire is looking likely to sign for a new European team.
After nine years at Old Trafford, the 20-year-old parted ways with United this summer, now down as a free agent at the end of his contract.
The attacking midfielder held the record for the youngest ever player to play for United in a European competition. Shoretire was handed his debut for the Red Devils and European opener by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the star playing Newcastle and Real Sociedad in the Europa League back in February 2021 at the age of 17.
With the youngster originally showing a lot of promise, United have tried for months to renew Shoretire’s contract, with the midfielder ultimately choosing to leave Old Trafford.
Now, Shoretire’s next club may be revealed.
Fabrizio Romano comments on Shoretire’s next club
Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano has commented on X that the young free agent has had a whole host of interest from England, Spain, the MLS and Saudi Arabia.
However, reports claim that Shoretire has verbally agreed with Greek side PAOK to join them next season.
It’s expected that the youngster will travel to Greece next week to sign the contract, with the free agent able to start immediately. With the star having no club at this time, all that is needed for Shoretire to start at the club is a written contract of the agreed terms
For United’s reserve squad, Shortire scored 32 goals and grabbed 20 assists in 71 games and showed his versatility by playing on both wings, in attacking midfield, centre midfield and centre-forward.
This versatility and attacking prowess is something that PAOK will be hoping can strengthen their squad to defend their Super League 1 title this coming season after winning it last season for the first time in five years.
