With so many changes having taken place under INEOS’ new leadership at Manchester United, it’s easy to wonder how things could have looked under Sheikh Jassim.
INEOS has made 250 redundancies, remodelled the coaching staff twice, and stood by Erik ten Hag, causing a higher level of compensation to be paid when they finally sacked him and sacked Dan Ashworth after paying compensation to poach him from Newcastle, and that’s only a few.
They’ve also removed concessions from ticket prices, ended Sir Alex Ferguson’s contract as global ambassador, and cut their funding in half to the Manchester United Disabled Supporters Association.
With so much change, and in such a drastic way, you might begin to wonder what would have happened if Sheikh Jassim’s bid had been accepted over Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s.
Well now, The Daily Mail has revealed what life would have looked like under the Qatari project.
Sheikh Jassim’s bid was vastly higher than INEOS’, with a bid for the full ownership of Manchester United valued at £4.79 billion. This was significantly more than Ratcliffe’s £1.25 billion for his quarter, however, The Glazers went with Ratcliffe as his bid valued the full club higher than Sheikh Jassim.
The report explains that over in Doha, the atmosphere for what has happened under INEOS is a sad one, rather than one of gloating.
So, what would United have looked like under Project Ruby?

Sheikh Jassim and his plan for Manchester United – Project Ruby
The Daily Mail has now revealed what the strategy for Project Ruby was and how they would have transformed United.
Day one was simple, just announce the takeover. Then on day two, the work begins.
Day two would have seen all debt be removed, with the club taken off of the New York Stock Exchange so that it could no longer be answerable to “far-away stakeholders”.
Day three would have seen fully funded plans for a new stadium.
Simple as that. Three days and the club would have been reportedly transformed with a new stadium and no more debt. Furthermore, Sir Alex Ferguson would have been invited onto the advisory board rather than sacked, and the club would have been hiring instead of firing.
One senior advisor to the group summed the situation up by saying: “A stadium for a football club paid for by a football club and nobody else. And as for the staff Ratcliffe is firing – we would have been hiring.
“Sheikh Jassim is still a rich guy. He is still a United fan. He is not going to rush off and try another Premier League club.
“If the opportunity to buy the whole of Manchester United arose again at some point in the future, it is hard to see there not being a big level of interest. The plans are still there.”
