Erik ten Hag is building himself a reputation for developing young players, and that trend looks set to continue as 16-year-old Shea Lacy was spotted in training ahead of the Premier League game against AFC Bournemouth.
This comes just four days before he is due to sign his first professional contract.
Lacey has been impressing in the youth system and could be in line to be the next young star to be given an opportunity in the first team.
Lacey has been injured for the last six months, and he looks set for a comeback, perhaps even in the first team.
As he commented on his X profile, Lacey mentioned how tough a 6 months it has been, but he is delighted to be back on the grass.
“Been a tough 6 months, good to be back out there,” he posted on his X profile.
Before his injury, Lacey played five times this season for United’s under-18s, scoring twice from midfield and picking up two yellow cards. He netted three goals in 12 last season, being booked just once.
The 16-year-old was born in Liverpool but unlike his brothers who are proper Liverpool fans, Lacey is United through and through.
Lacey’s impressive performances at youth level led to him being called up to the Manchester United under-18 side, making his debut at the age of fifteen.
The left-footed Lacey is comfortable of playing in a variety of positions including attacking midfielder but has been utilized by Man United at right wing. He has sometimes been compared to English superstar Phil Foden on account of the similarities in their play style.
