Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanesha Scott.
It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?
Thank you for having me. I am pleased to say that I have been blessed to check off multiple goals that have been on my “bucket list,” including being a plus size model, a makeup artist, radio host, and recently as last year I opened my life coaching business, Beauty 4RM Ashes. Now as God would have it, simultaneously as I opened my business, I was also diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease that causes muscle weakness called Polymyositis. I have had a year full of downs, ups, and things in between, but I am happy to still be here to tell my story which is what inspired me to write my first book: “When I Got Sick: A Story of Tragedy & Triumph. The First Year”
I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?
One of the greatest challenges I’ve faced is battling polymyositis. It has not only the physical aspect of it, but also the emotional and mental impact that it has had on me. I’ve literally seen my muscles disappear before my eyes (called muscle wasting). I also experienced so much weakness in my legs that I eventually had to use a walking cane. Presently, I’m dealing with swallowing issues. It’s hard for me to swallow liquids and solids. At this point, I truly value the small things in life now, because they have literally been taken away from me at one time or another during the last year.
Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?
I started off as a Mindset Life Coach, but since I’ve been living with polymyositis, I have switched my coaching business to Health & Nutrition coaching. Our body is truly a temple and you only get one so cherish it! I want to teach people to be proactive instead of reactive when it comes to taking care of their bodies. On top of that, I’ve always wanted to tell my life story, but I never knew this would be the starting point. My book is very important because it not only talks about my journey dealing with this disease, but also prevention. I truly want to help people. I would never wish polymyositis, or any other autoimmune disease on anyone. It’s a horrible disease to live with, but I am glad God has given me the strength to get through it and tell my story.
What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?
First and foremost, create a vision board of some sorts. I’ve literally accomplished everything I’ve set my mind to because I’m not afraid to fail and I don’t let other people’s opinions deter me. If I truly want to try something I go for it. I’m excited about being able to mark off becoming an author as one of the things that I’ve wanted to accomplish in my life. It’s truly a gratifying feeling and as odd as it may seem, I know God had a plan when I was diagnosed with this disease. I truly feel my journey here on earth is to help people through my own personal experiences.
Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?
The word success means going for all your dreams and aspirations. I sleep well at night because I have no regrets and I have been fortunate enough to experience everything I’ve wanted to. Now you have to be willing to put in the work. Nothing never comes easy without hard work. Finally, never let other people deter you from what you want to do.
What’s next for you?
Right now, I’m promoting my newly released book “When I Got Sick: A Story of Tragedy & Triumph. The First Year.” I’m very excited about this new chapter (pun intended). Up next, I plan on a grand reopening of my Life Coaching business, Beauty 4RM Ashes. Unfortunately, with my diagnosis last year I had to put my business on the backburner and focus on my health.
Finally, how can people connect with you if they want to learn more?
