January 11, 2025 BRONX, New York – Arraignment for the individual who knifed a teen to death on Friday morning in Mott Haven.
Serial stabbing suspect Waldo Mejia, 29, was charged with 2nd degree murder, 1st degree manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon for his alleged role in the random stabbing attack that left 14-year-old Caleb Rios dead in The Bronx.
Mejia, also the suspect in Transit slashing that occurred a week prior at the 138th St – 3rd Ave Station on the 5th of January.
A 38-year-old man was found with a large laceration to his left arm that caused the loss of a large amount of blood that was located on the platform and mezzanine level of the station.

The suspect in both cases was seen in handcuffs and escorted out of the 40th Precinct by NYPD Detectives to a waiting jail transport vehicle.
According to police, 14-year-old Caleb Rios was fatally stabbed Friday morning at the rear of the NYCHA Mitchel Houses near E.138th St. & Lincoln Ave. in Mott Haven section of The Bronx

At approximately 9:30am, police responded and located the unresponsive teen with two stab wounds to the chest. The victim was rushed by EMS to Lincoln Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police searched nearby 3 Avenue -138 St Subway Station 6 line where crime scene tape blocked two entrances.
It’s not known if the knifing started inside the station or if the suspect used the transit system to escape, as the incident is still under investigation.
