Senior Financial Accountant – Johannesburg

Duties & Responsibilities:

Manage, train and work with Financial Accountants to ensure:

  • Creditor reconciliations, payments and follow-up completed accurately, within Company policy and timeously
  • Review cashbook payments to ensure it is completed accurately, within Company policy and timeously
  • Ensure all bank and cashbook accounts are reconciled on time and accurately
  • Ensure all debtors transactions are captured timeously and accurately
  • Identification and reporting of potential debtor risk and bad debt
  • Approve intercompany invoices in line with Company policy
  • Review and approve intercompany reconciliations
  • Review and approve reconciliation of fixed asset register to general ledger and ensure assets are accounted for in line with IFRS and Company policy
  • Review and approve VAT declarations and reconciliations to ensure VAT is declared and paid in line with the VAT Act
  • Review and approval of payment batches
  • Prepare/ review journal batches and processing
  • Ensure above transactions comply with relevant tax requirements (VAT, PAYE and Income Tax)
  • Ensure all long-term liabilities and leases are recorded accurately and in line with IFRS

Budgets/ Forecasts:

  • Collation and data preparation from Project Management Accountants to prepare and compile annual budgets and monthly forecasts for legal entities
  • Balance sheet and Income statement:
  • Preparing of management accounts to all relevant stakeholders timeously and accurately
  • Collation and review of variance analysis of month and year-to-date against Budget
  • Produce management packs monthly with executive commentary on any material variances
  • Implement and monitor financial policy changes
  • Review and sign-off of balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Review and sign-off of monthly accruals and provisions

General:

  • Perform internal audits on sites/legal entities as required
  • Review and advise on cost improvements
  • Report and follow up on non-compliance on financial policy when found
  • Ensure that monthly reporting deadlines and format is adhered to
  • Update and maintain all statutory records in line with Company law
  • Any other ad hoc duties
  • Compile and review specific DRA Group Reports

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) Degree
  • A Postgraduate Finance qualification or studying towards will be advantageous

Experience and Skills Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Cost and Management Accounting as well as Financial Accounting
  • Minimum 5 years Mining Industry experience of which at least 3 years should be in a Head Office role
  • Advanced computer literacy in MS Office
  • Sage X3 experience – preferable
