Calabar, Nigeria — Mrs. Nela Asuquo Ekpenyong, wife of the Senator representing Cross River South Senatorial District, has flagged off a series of Christmas parties for women and children across the senatorial district. The events, tagged Cross River South Community Women and Children Christmas Party, are being held in multiple locations to accommodate families from various federal constituencies.
The celebrations kicked off on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, for residents of Biase and Akamkpa at the Akamkpa Local Government Council. The festivities will then move to the Calabar Municipality Local Government Council on Thursday, December 19, 2024, for families in the Calabar Municipal/Odukpani Federal Constituency. The grand finale is scheduled for Friday, December 20, 2024, at the Cultural Centre Complex, Calabar, for residents of the Calabar South/Akpabuyo/Bakassi Federal Constituency.
The Christmas parties, convened by Mrs. Ekpenyong, aim to spread love, unity, and joy during the festive season while bringing families together across the district.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Mrs. Ekpenyong emphasized her commitment to improving the welfare of women and children in the senatorial district. “This event is about bringing families together and sharing the joy of Christmas. It is a season of love, giving, and unity, and we want to ensure that every family feels included and celebrated,” she stated.

In their remarks, Dr. Mrs. Nkechi Emil-Inyang, wife of the Federal Lawmaker representing Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency, and Comrade Katame Emilia Abang, Vice Chairman of Akamkpa Local Government Area, expressed their gratitude to Mrs. Ekpenyong and her husband for their generosity and love towards the people. “The senator’s family has truly shown that they care about the people,” Dr. Emil-Inyang noted.
The events featured a variety of activities, including dance competitions, cake cutting, and gift-sharing, creating a festive atmosphere for attendees. A major highlight was the distribution of hundreds of bags of rice to women across the Local Government Areas within the federal constituencies.
