The last time Virtua Fighter received a brand new entry came all the way back in July 2006 before the PlayStation 3 even hit store shelves, but perhaps there may be something on the horizon.
Sega recently shared what appears to be a cryptic teaser for something that has fans hopeful it’s pointing towards Virtua Fighter 6, and they may have a point.
The official Japanese Sega account on X/Twitter put out an interesting post last night for those of us in the West that certainly raised some eyebrows.
They shared an image of Sega written 54 times with the accompanying text, “Which one is not SEGA? Can you spot the odd one out?”
In the second row and second column, there is a difference that stands out pretty quickly.
They wrote “SE6A” instead of SEGA.
It doesn’t appear the company has elaborated on what that’s about yet, but that got the gears turning in the heads of Virtua Fighter fans.

There have been rumors / alleged leaks swirling around online this year regarding a brand new Virtua Fighter entry that could reportedly be revealed at some point this year.
The alleged details regarding the project, however, painted it perhaps more as a reboot to the first premier 3D fighting game that originally hit arcades in 1993.
Said leaker, Midori, was also discovered to by lying about their identity and deleted their social media pages earlier this year as well though that doesn’t necessarily mean the VF6 information was false considering their overall track record with Sega / Atlus information.

Sega themselves have talked about their interest in a new Virtua Fighter for years at this point, but the last official word we received was they were still “evaluating” what to do with the series.
The game company also recently brought back Virtua Fighter 3tb for the first time since the Sega Dreamcast with a new arcade system and inclusion in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth after releasing Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown in 2021.

If this is supposed to be a tease for Virtua Fighter 6, it is curious that Sega would completely skip over Tokyo Game Show 2024 last week (as well as Evo 2024), which could have served as a big stage to get a bunch of eyes on a reveal.
But at the same time, we’re also not sure what else “SE6A” could be referring to currently unless it’s something like a Yakuza 6 remaster.
If we are still going to get that supposed Virtua Fighter announcement in 2024, The Game Awards 2024 is looking like the place with the best shot since that’s where Sega revealed a bunch of other classic revivals last year.
So keep your eyes peeled on December 12 unless something happens before then.
