It’s a bit wild to think that Virtua Fighter fans have been waiting since 2006 for a brand new game in the series, but they may not have to do so for much longer.
After coming out to drop a bunch of alleged details about a reboot earlier this month, a prominent Sega / Atlus leaker is back with some more information regarding Virtua Fighter and also Streets of Rage.
Midori, who’s had a pretty solid track record up to this point, recently put up a few more posts about the rumored Sega projects that’s a bit interesting.
According to the leaker, there will be a “new Virtua Fighter reveal later this year” while a new Streets of Rage game is being worked on by Canadian studio Komi Games, who previously made Mighty Fight Federation.
Since English isn’t Midori’s native language, it’s a bit unclear if they are talking about the alleged Virtua Fighter reboot or perhaps a new remake, re-release or collection of older titles.
And new Virtua Fighter reveal later this year.

Considering we postulated in our previous story that a new Virtua Fighter likely wouldn’t release until at least 2027, it seems a bit premature for a brand new game with it being absent from Sega’s big announcements from The Game Awards 2023 unless it’s farther along in development than thought prior.
As to where it could show up, Tokyo Game Show 2024 would be the most probable in our mind though Evo 2024 or Evo Japan 2024 are up there too.
Midori reported before that the supposed VF reboot is not being worked on the the Like a Dragon team but rather a studio comprised of current and former developers for the series.
They said the game will have a heavy focus on eSports and online play as well as an all new main story with brand new characters for the franchise.
What this truly means for the landmark 3D fighting game series remains to be seen, but this should all of course be taken with a healthy grain of salt.
It seems, however, we should be keeping an eye out for reveals just in case.
