I asked this question many months back at ask.naij.com, I even forget about it, till when I got many answers replies so I have to share only three of them concerning leaving your kids to make decisions on their own. So, let’s take a look at their replies below….
1. Anonymous, a student:
“I am a teacher, so communication with children is a part of my everydays life. But, to my mind, the best way of communication with them is to talk with them and to have such attitude to them as they are grown ups. we should not think that children are small and do not understand what to do, – they know better what they want and need, than we do. it is a greatest mistake of grown ups to think that we are much cleverer than our children, because they can teach us a lot of interesting and useful things and can make some decissions by themselves”.
2. Alice Hrynevskaya, a student from Ukraine:
“We try give our children best, decide for them, what wear, what play, what eat and so on. It’s okay, right and safe for baby. But there comes time, when you need little bit away total control and give child right choose. It is important respect choice of their child. Criticism in this case – taboo, because it’s fully capable beat off any desire share with you my views and thoughts. Put yourself in place of the child: you enjoy listening to all time ridicule and criticism? And so unpleasant and hurt for child”.
3. Daria Bilchik, a Newbie from Russia:
“I’m sure that the only right answer is “yes”. And the sooner the better. Please let your child decide what sweater should be worn or what toy he or she want to buy. You always can give your kid some reasonable options to choose from. And of cause you can explain why you think the kid’s choice isn’t the best. Please give your child advices and examples but don’t push on he or she. Let kids be responsible for their choice. They will learn to consider all the pros and cons before make choice without waiting a right answer from you. And I’m sure it is the only way to help our children to be independent and make less mistakes in their life”.
