Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was originally released back on December 7, 2018 worldwide. To commemorate the game’s fifth anniversary, it was announced back in December 2023 that four waves of new Spirit Board events were coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
This was significant as the last time the platform brawler had received a new Spirit was when the Evil Ryu Spirit was added to celebrate Street Fighter’s 35th anniversary back in January 2022. Needless to say, there’s an implication suggesting that the developers might already be working on the next entry in the series due to the development and release of this new content.
Earlier this month, the first batch of new Spirits were released. These Spirits consisted of Rauru from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Deep Cut from Splatoon 3, Noah & Mio from Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and Oatchi from Pikmin 4.
The second batch of Spirits have been announced to be coming to the game on January 25, 2024. These new Spirits are Power Pro-Kun, Aoi Hayakawa, & Mamoru Ikari from the MLB Power Pros series, The 13 Sentinel Pilots from 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, and Zagreus from Hades.
Of course, it should also be noted that Kingdom Hearts’ Sora will become an amiibo on February 16, 2024. As of right now, there are currently no mentions of Sora’s amiibo in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s code, so a patch will likely be necessary even though Nintendo has been able to “hotfix” in these new Spirits so far. We’ll have to see if that brings anything else when the time comes.
