Recent surveillance footage has revealed another shooting incident near Aurora Avenue North, a region in north Seattle infamous for gun violence, drug activity, and prostitution. The shooting occurred around 12:20 p.m. on Saturday on the 10200 block of Linden Avenue North, located in Seattle’s Greenwood neighborhood. Officers from the Seattle Police Department (SPD) discovered over six shell casings at the scene upon their arrival.
The suspect was seen fleeing in a Maserati heading southbound, while video footage shows him re-entering a Jeep to pursue the victim’s vehicle. The SPD has described the suspect as a Black man in his 20s with shoulder-length locks, last observed wearing a black hoodie.
Surveillance videos from the vicinity depict a silver Maserati driving slowly along Linden Avenue North when a silver Jeep pulls up, attempting to block its path. The driver of the Jeep exits the vehicle, draws a pistol, and fires at least eight shots towards the driver’s side of the Maserati. Another individual appears to be present in the Jeep, although they are not visible in the footage.
Fortunately, Seattle police reported that no injuries were sustained during the shooting, and officers were unable to locate either vehicle during their search of the area. This incident adds to a troubling trend, as the North Precinct has recorded approximately 165 shootings and shots-fired incidents this year, reflecting a 9% increase compared to the same time frame last year. The region is believed to be significantly affected by gang activities, sex trafficking, and turf wars among pimps.
The brazen nature of the shooting, occurring in broad daylight. However, addressing the root causes of crime, such as poverty, lack of access to education, and mental health services, remains a significant challenge. Community members and local organizations are often engaged in efforts to combat these issues, advocating for increased police presence, community outreach programs, and support services for individuals affected by violence and addiction.
