In an effort to improve parking availability and support local businesses, the city of Seattle will be updating street parking rates on Monday, March 18. The decision comes as part of the city’s regular seasonal adjustments and is based on parking occupancy data from January 2024.

These new rates are designed to help individuals find parking spots near businesses more reliably. By analyzing recent parking data, the city has determined that parking rates will generally increase in areas and times where finding an open parking space is particularly challenging. Conversely, rates will decrease in locations where parking spots are easier to find.
Overall, approximately half of the rates will either decrease or remain the same. Rates that are subject to change will experience an adjustment of $0.50 per hour, either increasing or decreasing accordingly. It is important to note that Seattle will update these rates again during the summer and fall seasons, taking into account the latest seasonal parking data.
In addition to street parking, the city is also updating event parking rates on streets surrounding the Climate Pledge Arena. The city’s goal is to ensure the availability of 1 to 2 parking spaces on each block at any given time. This translates to a parking occupancy rate target of 70 to 85%. If the occupancy rate surpasses 85%, it indicates high demand for parking, and an increase in rates can help make more spaces available. Conversely, if the occupancy rate falls below 70%, it signals lower demand and allows for decreased rates.
By implementing these adjustments, the city of Seattle aims to enhance the parking experience for residents, visitors, and businesses alike. The updated rates will contribute to a more efficient parking system, ensuring that parking spaces are accessible and accommodating for all.
