Seattle Reports Multiple Violent Incidents Over Weekend

Seattle Police Department (SPD) officers responded to a series of violent incidents from Thursday, January 30, through Sunday, February 2, including multiple shootings, armed robberies, and other public safety concerns across the city. Several individuals were injured, and investigations remain ongoing.

Thursday, January 30, 2025

At 3:58 p.m., officers responded to an apartment complex in the 3600 block of 33rd Avenue South after reports of a man in crisis breaking into multiple apartments. Witnesses stated that the 62-year-old suspect was throwing objects, including flowerpots, at people and kicking in apartment doors. The suspect then retreated to his own unit and was seen armed with a knife.

SPD’s Hostage Negotiation Team attempted to communicate with the suspect but was unsuccessful. SWAT officers executed a search warrant and safely took the man into custody. He was evaluated by Seattle Fire Department (SFD) medics and booked into King County Jail.

At 9:30 p.m., SPD’s Human Trafficking Unit conducted an undercover prostitution sting along Aurora Avenue. Nine individuals were arrested for patronizing a prostitute and prostitution loitering after approaching an undercover officer and offering payment for sex acts. The Seattle City Prosecutor’s Office assisted in the operation, and all suspects were booked into King County Jail.

At 1:25 a.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting outside 1511 3rd Avenue. They found an adult male victim suffering from gunshot wounds to the neck and hip. Officers provided medical aid until SFD transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center (HMC), where he remained in critical but stable condition. No suspects have been identified. Detectives from the Gun Violence Reduction and Narcotics Unit (GVRU) are investigating.

At 9:06 a.m., officers responded to a trespassing incident and determined the individual met the criteria for an involuntary mental health evaluation. While officers attempted to secure the individual onto a gurney, the subject suddenly bit an officer’s exposed forearm, leaving a red mark but no skin breakage. The individual was transported to HMC after King County Jail declined to book them.

At 3:00 a.m., officers near the West Precinct were flagged down about a disturbance involving a machete. Three suspects were detained, and a firearm was found on one of them during a frisk. While no further criminal activity was identified, one suspect spit in the face of a sergeant before being booked into King County Jail for assault.

At 4:10 p.m., officers responded to a report of a man passed out in a running vehicle. They determined the vehicle was stolen and attempted a high-risk stop, but the suspect fled, crashing into a utility pole. Officers arrested the suspect after a brief foot chase. Due to injuries sustained in the crash, he was taken for medical evaluation before booking. He faces charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, eluding police, and an outstanding felony warrant.

At 5:55 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 7300 block of 45th Avenue South and found a male victim suffering from two gunshot wounds. Officers provided medical aid until SFD transported him to HMC in serious but stable condition. Detectives secured the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.

At 9:00 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call in the 800 block of Yesler Way, where a woman was heard screaming for police assistance. Upon arrival, officers encountered a man and a woman and established probable cause for felony domestic violence threats and property damage. As officers took the suspect into custody, he spit in an officer’s face. He was booked into King County Jail for assault, felony domestic violence threats, and property damage.

Sunday, February 2, 2025

At 12:30 a.m., a man walking in the 1300 block of 12th Avenue South was approached by an armed suspect who demanded his wallet. The victim attempted to grab the gun, and the suspect shot him three times in the legs before fleeing. The victim drove himself to the hospital, where Robbery Unit detectives interviewed him. Officers were unable to locate a crime scene, and the investigation remains ongoing.

At 2:07 a.m., officers witnessed a fight outside a lounge in the 2300 block of 2nd Avenue. Moments later, they heard three gunshots and saw a gray Tesla Model Y speeding away. Witnesses identified the Tesla as the source of the gunfire. Officers recovered evidence at the scene but were unable to locate the suspect vehicle.

At 3:38 a.m., a vehicle traveling northbound on 2nd Avenue South became stuck on train tracks near South Horton Street. The four occupants exited the car but were unable to stop an oncoming train from striking the unoccupied vehicle, pushing it nearly 200 feet. No injuries were reported.

At 2:08 p.m., officers responded to an assault call in the North Precinct involving a suspect who allegedly attacked the victim due to their sexual orientation. The suspect was arrested and booked into King County Jail. The Bias Crimes Coordinator and Violent Crimes Section were notified.

At 6:14 p.m., officers were dispatched to the West Seattle Bridge, where a woman was found on the mid-span, threatening to jump. The subject, armed with a small knife, kept it pointed at officers while they attempted to de-escalate the situation. Traffic was shut down due to noise interference. After an hour of negotiations, officers were able to talk her off the ledge and safely take her into custody.

At 7:00 p.m., SPD’s Community Response Group (CRG) received intel about street racers gathering at a Costco parking lot after hours. Officers arrived and found approximately 40 modified vehicles preparing for a takeover event. The drivers were warned and trespassed from the location, preventing further illegal activity. Officers monitored the city throughout the night to ensure the event did not relocate.

At 7:32 p.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire in the South Precinct. Upon arrival, they recovered 28 spent shell casings but found no victims or property damage. The case remains under investigation.

At 9:00 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting at a residence in the 900 block of Golf Drive South. Investigators determined that an ex-boyfriend had allegedly broken into the female victim’s apartment and assaulted her with a firearm. The current boyfriend arrived during the altercation and was shot by the suspect. The suspect then allegedly forced the female victim to leave the scene against her will, though she was able to escape a short distance away. The male victim self-transported to HMC, where he is in stable condition. The female victim was treated at Valley Medical Center. The suspect fled and remains outstanding. GVRU detectives are investigating.
