Sean's status within the world of Street Fighter 6 updated by Director Takayuki Nakayama

Despite taking place after the events of Street Fighter 3: Third Strike, the Street Fighter 6 roster currently has no direct representation from the third iteration of Street Fighter. Still, there’s hope that these sort of characters could someday become playable again.

As highlighted by Scotia on Twitter, an interesting illustration was recently released that shows what Sean looks like after the passage of time that followed the events of SF3. Additionally, Takayuki Nakayama has left a few comments regarding Sean and the illustration.

Based on the images provided, our very own Nicholas ‘MajinTenshinhan’ Taylor has translated what is being said. Needless to say, what the Street Fighter 6 Director says turns out to be very interesting.

“In this image, the bonds between new and old characters are shown and you really feel like Jamie and the others were always part of this world,” begun what is presumed to be some sort of interviewer that’s conversing with Nakayama.

“It’s an illustration of Luke, and together with him we have Bosch and Jamie and we also added Sean, and they’re all eating together,” responded Nakayama. “There’s no real explanation as such, but we wanted to create a situation where Sean came to visit Metro City and he stopped by Luke and the others.”

In the illustration, we can see Sean hanging out with Luke, Jamie, Bosch, and what appears to be Rudra — gang leader of The Crows in Metro City — at Luke’s gym. They all seem to be enjoying some fast food from some restaurant abbreviated as “MB,” which is likely inspired from McDonald’s and Hardee’s.

Assuming that this is a canonical interaction within the Street Fighter universe, then we can probably assume that this is a scenario that takes place before the events of the World Tour mode. This is mostly due to the presence of Bosch considering that he would end up leaving Luke’s training program shortly after the arrival of the player avatar.

Still, even this comes across as being rather odd seeing as how Bosch initially questioned how eating food could be beneficial to his training at the beginning of World Tour. One would think that Luke would’ve already imparted this lesson to Bosch if they had eaten together like this.

Regardless, Nakayama confirms that Sean is not only still around in Street Fighter 6, but he’s also grown up since we last saw him.

“As you can see, Sean has grown up since his appearance in Street Fighter 3, so he hasn’t been removed from continuity or anything and we’d be happy if you also feel like he’s living in this world alongside the rest of the fighters,” continued the Street Fighter 6 Director.

Perhaps we’ll get the chance to play Sean again someday. Considering how he appears now, he might not be the joke character that he was remembered for as he was in Street Fighter 3: Third Strike.
