The Mortal Kombat series started as a 2D fighter and has since transitioned into the 2.5D fighting game we know today. However, midway through the series’ lifespan so far, it had actually turned into a 3D fighting game like Tekken for a good while.
Considering the lore of the Tekken series, it really feels like combatants from the Mortal Kombat series would work well in Tekken. As such, Ariel Combo recently recreated Scorpion and Sub-Zero’s looks in Tekken 8 via the customization tools.
It would appear that Raven is being used as a base for both Sub-Zero and Scorpion. This certainly makes sense considering Raven’s ninja-like mannerisms, though you wouldn’t want to refer to the Lin Kuei as a ninja in Bi-Han’s presence.
In some of the earlier Mortal Kombat titles, Sub-Zero and Scorpion were simply palette swaps of one another. They’d often share many of the same animations despite being entirely different in terms of their playstyles.
Regardless, Sub-Zero and Scorpion look absolutely amazing here. It certainly would be nice to see some sort of crossover someday.
