Last week, a 17-year-old secondary school girl identified as Promise Idorenyin was nabbed with a gun which she wanted to use to shoot her teacher for telling her to cut her coloured hair at Community Secondary School, Ikot Ewa, Akpabuyo local government area of Cross River State, South-South Nigeria.
The schoolgirl was paraded today, February 19, 2021, by the Cross River State Commissioner of Police, CP Sikiru Akande, alongside 12 suspected kidnappers, cultists, armed robbers and others.
PARADISE NEWS gathered that Idorenyin resumed school with an unusual hairstyle, well coloured. Her teacher then asked her to go cut the hair so to look like a normal student, but she decided to show up with a pistol to shoot her teacher for disciplining her instead.
“The girl resumed back to school and was asked by her class teacher to go home, barb her coloured hair to appear like a normal student”, an eyewitness, Otunba Charles told PARADISE NEWS.
Parading the 17-year-old schoolgirl, CP Akande who gave her name as Promise Idorenyin, said the gun was given to her by her 38-year-old boyfriend, Okon Effiom Edet, and that the female suspect did not target her teacher as initially reported since the double-barrel pistol found in her bag had no ammunition.
The Police Commissioner said: “The 17-year-old girl, an SS 2 student of Community Secondary School, Ikot Ewa, Akpabuyo, had in her school bag a locally made double-barrel pistol, which was discovered by the principal of the school.
“The suspect admitted that the said firearm was given to her by her boyfriend, Okon Effiom of Abasi Effiom village in Akpabuyo LGA. Discreet investigation is on-going; the suspects will soon be handed over to the appropriate authority for prosecution”.
Talking to the press, the 17-year-old girl confessed that the gun belonged to her boyfriend and that her parents were aware of her relationship with the man and had given their support, but denied planning to shoot her teacher.
“My parents are aware of my relationship. At times, he sleeps in our house. He helps me in my school matters. He told me to take the gun to the blacksmith to fix it”, Idorenyin said.
She said further that she belonged to a female cult group called “Sky Queens Confraternity”, but was not given any position of responsibility.
This is not the first time a secondary school teacher is being harassed or attack in Cross River State.
The other was at Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) Calabar, where a parent brought in some officials of the Department of State Services (DSS) to manhandled a teacher for disciplining the child. READ FULL STORY HERE.
