Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has suspended his Senior Special Assistant on Print Media, Wale Ajetunmobi.
The suspension was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile.
According to the statement, Ajetunmobi’s suspension follows the misrepresentation of facts in a post on his personal “X” account regarding a past incident.
On Sunday, Premium Times reported a controversial post by Ajetunmobi, under the handle #Riddwane, where he claimed that individuals who burned down the Television Continental (TVC) station in Lagos during the 2020 #EndSARS protests had been “hunted down and executed.”
Although he did not reveal who carried out the hunt and execution of the alleged arsonists, he hinted that he possessed more information than he was willing to share.
“The full story of people who burnt down TVC in 2020 will be told one day, with gory clips and images. One thing to note: the majority of them have been hunted down and executed.
“One of them, a young boy trading in cooking gas around Ketu, was found with an AK-47 at the site. Even his neighbours were shocked. But the full gist is better saved for later,” Ajetunmobi was quoted to have said.
The statement by Akosile noted that Sanwo-Olu’s administration frowns at any form of extra-judicial punishment and will not be a part of any such action.
“Mr Ajetunmobi’s suspension comes on the heels of the misrepresentation of facts on his personal “X” account on a past incident,” Akosile stated.
“The Governor wishes to state categorically that his administration frowns at any form of extra-judicial punishment and will not be a part of any such action. That is not who we are. That is not our way.”
