Samsung Galaxy Z Tab: New foldable tablet ready to revolutionize the segment
Samsung was among the first to build a range of foldable smartphones. For years, the brand had this category under its belt. Now, we are seeing more and more competitors joining the class. This year, the company will introduce the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 and Galaxy Z Flip5, and apparently, they won’t be so revolutionary. We expect an improved design and better hinge, but other specs should keep a conservative/careful approach. However, it seems that Samsung has more in tow for us. While the competition rises, the company may have a secret product to put it in the lead – the Samsung Galaxy Z Tab.
The market of foldable smartphones is trending, but what about foldable tablets? The horizontal folding phones almost work like tablets, but they are still compact if we compare them with the 11-inch, 12-inch tablets that we have in the market. As per a new report, Samsung may be ready to unveil the market’s first foldable tablet. The device could come alongside the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series, as a “one more thing” product.
Samsung Galaxy Z Tab will come alongside the Tab S9 series
As per the leakster @Tech_Reve, the Samsung Galaxy Z Tab belongs to the Z-series. However, it will be launched at the same time as the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series. It will be a foldable tablet, so Samsung is likely keeping it close to other tablets, rather than bringing it along with the Z Fold and Z Flip. The new foldable will launch in August, but there is no forecast for the Galaxy Tab S9 series launch.
Right now, not much is known about this Galaxy Z Tab in terms of specs and design. There is just a patent filed by Samsung a few years ago. The patent shows dual hinges that allow the tablet to fold forward and backward depending on whether the user wants to close the display to protect it or to create a smaller display with a wide aspect ratio. The patent can become a very interesting product, but we don’t know if it really reflects the Galaxy Z Tab.
Gizchina News of the week
This would be Samsung’s first take on a dual-hinge product, but honestly, we don’t think this product will materialize right now. Samsung, nowadays, is more conservative. It mastered the single hinge design with four generations of Samsung Galaxy Z Folds, five we take in mind that the Z Fold5 is already in development. So, the Galaxy Z Tab will probably be a single-hinge device.
A foldable tablet to compete with a foldable iPad, but what about the price?
Interestingly, Samsung seems to be preparing for the launch of the rumored foldable iPad. As per reports, Apple’s first take-in foldable will be with the iPad lineup and not an iPhone. Samsung may want to launch a foldable ahead of its biggest competitor. If it comes this year, then the company can get the credit for launching the world’s first foldable tablet. After all, the foldable iPad is coming only in the next year.
If there is a Galaxy Z Tab coming this year, then we expect more leaks to pop out very soon. There are a lot of questions in the air like the hardware inside this tablet. Just like the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip are flagships, we expect this tablet to also be a flagship tablet. It’s hard to determine if it will come with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy or something below it. One-time foldable phones are still more expensive than regular phones, and we believe that this tablet will be anything but cheap. However, Samsung will likely cut some corners to not make the price too absurd.
On Samsung’s website, the Galaxy Z Fold4 costs nearly $1,799, but you can find it for less on some third-party retailers.
